Don’t let your cat play ‘pill hockey’

Cats love to play with and bat things around. So, keeping medications or supplements out — even if they’re in their vials or pill sorters — is just too risky. It can also be dangerous for any dogs or young children in your home. Get in the habit of storing all medications and supplements safely away in drawers or cabinets, and not on countertops, nightstands, bathroom vanities, or even the top of your refrigerator (yes, cats have even knocked things off there!).

Cat swats pills from counter on to floor
Fancy

a mischievous 9-year-old Ragdoll, got on well with her canine brother, Sherman, a 1-year-old Westie. Unfortunately though, she liked to knock things off of countertops. Her dangerous habit landed Sherman in the Animal ER one night, after he happily gobbled up all of his owner’s blood pressure pills from the bottle that Fancy knocked off the kitchen counter. Thankfully, it was near the end of the month and the bottle wasn’t very full, so it wasn’t as bad for Sherman as it could have been. Fancy still loves knocking things off countertops, and Sherman would still be happy to “get rid of the evidence,” but their mom is now careful to keep all of her medications off the countertops and safely out of Fancy’s reach.
