Strrrrrrrrrrrrrrrretch!

It feels so good to stretch! That’s because it has physical and stress-relieving benefits. Dogs often stretch on their own, but they can get some gentle assistance from you, especially if their mobility is limited. Their hips, shoulders, and back benefit the most from stretching.

This hip flexor stretch addresses their hips, back, and leg muscles, improving mobility in the hips and spine as well as improving the condition of their lower back.

  • Have your dog stand
  • Gently grab a leg just above the knee
  • Slowly and gently begin moving the leg back. Stop when you reach a point of resistance. It’ll be different for every dog.
  • Hold the position for about 15 to 30 seconds, and then slowly release
  • Repeat 2 to 3 times on each leg

Stretching should be done in a quiet and comfortable place. Think yoga studio vibe. You don’t want distractions to cause your dog to jerk during the movement. Do the exercises consistently, gently, and slowly. Pay attention to any signs of discomfort, and don’t force any motions. Now, it’s time for you to take a break from reading this and strrrrrrrrretch!
