Senior Dog Comfort & Care

Get a grip

Being able to have secure footing goes a long way in keeping senior dogs comfortable and active. The good news is there are a couple of easy options beyond carpet runners. You can try Dr. Buzby’s Toegrips® on their nails. If they aren’t a fan of their nails being messed with or tend to chew their nails, you can try adding anti-slip paw grips or coverings to their pads. There are also grippy dog socks. Some of it comes down to your dog’s preference and tolerance.

For wood, smooth concrete steps, or stairs where a ramp isn’t possible, you can add non-slip stair treads to help secure their footing. These treads are even more beneficial when they are a high-contrast color to the surrounding area (i.e., yellow on black or yellow on blue). Also, remember, for your dog to have the best footing, keep their nails trimmed.
