Potty pads can have lots of benefits for senior pups who struggle with incontinence. Lining their sleeping area can make clean-up easier and prevent stains on your floor. For dogs who have trouble going up and down stairs or if itâs a long trek outside, an easily accessible potty pad is just the ticket! And when itâs cold, dark, and rainy outside, having a pad nearby can mean your dog doesnât need to hold it and be uncomfortable.
If your dog is used to going potty outdoors, the easiest option is to use a real grass indoor potty pad. If youâd like to use paper potty pads start by putting one in their usual outdoor potty spot so they start to get comfortable going on it. Then, place one indoors. Consider transferring the scent of their urine from outdoors to the pad by dabbing a paper towel in the puddle and then blotting it onto the pad. If your dog has a âgo pottyâ cue, say that while your dog is on the pad and have a treat party if they do their doody.
