Getting old is no fun. It’s annoying when you can’t get around like you used to, especially when you have to go to the bathroom. Typically, immobility happens in an aging dog’s backend. Using a sling or a harness with handles can help you support your dog when they walk and go potty. Helping them rise reduces pain since you are taking weight off their joints.
For dogs that have weakness in both front and back legs, there are slings and harnesses that allow you to support more of their body weight. A sling is often easier to use for smaller dogs, as slings come in varying lengths, so you don’t have to crouch down as much to help them. And harnesses are often more helpful for larger, heavier dogs.
Doggie wheelchairs are helpful, too, and aren’t only for paralyzed dogs. They can be used for walking and getting exercise — providing your dog with support and confidence as they move.
