Senior Cat Comfort & Care

Can I see a menu?

You may notice your senior cat isn’t eating the way they used to. There are many reasons eating habits can change.

  • Slowing metabolism
  • Loss of smell and taste makes food less appealing
  • Physical discomfort that impacts their interest in food
  • Gastrointestinal distress makes eating uncomfortable
  • Dental issues cause pain while eating
  • Nervousness and anxiety

When senior cats don’t get sufficient calories and hydration, the effects can be debilitating. It’s important to measure out your cat’s meals (Tip #22) and regularly monitor their eating and drinking habits for changes.

Talk to your vet if your cat hasn’t eaten in a full day, especially if they have any medical issues. Check out Tip #20 for tricks to encourage your cat to eat.
