Everyone loves kitty snuggles and head butts, but that tender moment can be ruined by stinky breath. As cats age, their breath can become somewhat unbearable.
But why? Some think it’s the food their cat is eating, the fishy-smelling treats, or the fish oil supplement they’re taking. Possible, but it’s more likely a medical issue.
The most common causes of stinky breath are periodontal disease, abscesses, ulcers, oral trauma, oral tumors, diabetes, respiratory disease, kidney disease, liver disease, or skin disease. Bad breath should never be ignored. Breath-freshening treats will only mask the issue. Get to your vet so the root cause can be determined and treatment can begin right away.
