Senior Cat Comfort & Care

You should teach an old cat new tricks

It's fun and simple, helps with cooperative care, builds confidence, and provides wonderful mental enrichment. We're talking about training.

It's never too late. Clicker training is a great place to start. There are books, videos, and classes about clicker training cats.

You can customize the training to fit your senior cat's limitations. Even cats with very limited mobility, vision changes, or hearing loss can participate. Just adjust based on their needs. Use visual cues for hearing issues and touch cues for vision issues. Keep it simple and stable for mobility issues.

On the cooperative care side, you can teach things like going to a mat on cue when it's time for medicine, being comfortable with nail trimming, and lying down so you can check for matted fur on their belly. On the fun side, you can teach things like ringing a bell, giving a high five, or booping your finger with their nose.

Training doesn't take much time but provides your cat with so much mental benefit, and it's a lovely opportunity to bond with your senior kitty.
