Senior Cat Comfort & Care

Your cat is Meowlock Holmes

Cats are inquisitive by nature. They're explorers and investigators. Being surrounded by the same sights, sounds, and smells all day, every day, can be less than stimulating.

Try a foraging box. Go outside and grab a few things: A big rock, a small rock, a stick, a leaf. Put them in an open box or just on the floor. Now, let your cat at it. They're going to sniff, touch with their paws, and check out the items full of smells and textures they haven't experienced before. When they're done, toss everything back outside.

Don't feel like going outside? That's OK. What did you buy at the grocery store yesterday? Maybe your cat has never investigated an apple or a piece of broccoli. You're not giving them things to eat. It's about the exploration: smells and physical touch.

It may only be a few minutes of entertainment. But your cat got to experience something different today, and that's what matters.

Be safe. Don't bring in any dangerous items, like leaves that you found near plants that are toxic to cats. And stay close so you can make sure they don't chew or ingest anything they shouldn’t.
