Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and nasty intestinal bugs don’t care if their victim is a playful kitten or a special senior.
Whether indoor-only or an outside sunbather, these pesky pests can find a way onto and into your cat. Since a senior’s immune system isn’t as strong, pests can wreak havoc. That’s why preventative medications all year long are important.
Many oral and some topical preventatives protect against all parasites: fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal. These all-inclusive medications can be expensive but are worth the investment based on the damage parasites can do and the costs of treatment. Keep in mind parasite preventatives are dosed (and priced) based on your cat’s weight. If your vet confirms your cat is over their goal weight, helping them reach their ideal weight could cut costs a bit. And, of course, a trimmer cat is healthier.
