Senior Cat Comfort & Care

Is at-home euthanasia right for you?

You want to provide your precious senior all the love you can during their final transition.

There are options depending on what you and your cat need. Saying goodbye is a memory you want to look back on without trauma. Perhaps keeping them at home, surrounded by their human and furry family, feels right. In that case, at-home euthanasia may be best.

You can have your cat in their favorite bed, hold them, or choose to be in another area. Your cat will be given a sedative. Once they're deeply asleep, they receive an injection that provides the final gift of euthanasia. You can sit with your cat as long as you need. If you wish to bury or cremate your cat, your veterinarian can make arrangements and transport them.

On the other hand, it may be difficult for you to have that memory in your home. You may feel more supported going through those final moments at your veterinary clinic.

In this case, you take your cat to the clinic. If you want to help them relax before you leave home, your veterinarian can provide a strong sedative for you to give. Once at the clinic, you can choose to be present or not. From there, the process for your cat's final moment is the same – a peaceful goodbye.
