Grief is an inevitable step in the journey of loving and caring for a cat. It's important to remember all the other steps that brought you joy through your life with them, even as your grief feels like it's taking over.
Allow yourself to feel what you need to feel. There's no timeline for recovery. Turn to those who know and care about you for support. Disregard unhelpful comments about why a cat has you so upset. Those words are of no use to you.
Perhaps you want to honor your cat in a special way. It may help to keep some of their things close, or you may feel better putting certain things away. Talking about your cat could bring comfort or you may need some space from the memories. There's no "right" way. It's about what helps you. No judgment. Be kind to yourself.
You may also have a grieving pet. Every situation is different. Some move forward as if they understand and may not have much of a reaction. Others can experience loneliness and other feelings that are hard on you and them. Offer support with a little extra attention and patience. Think of playing with them as a moment of respite for you to feel that joy. You'll all come through it with time and understanding.
